Terry Tyrannosaurus Gets an Instrument

Written by: Jessica Senesac

Illustrated by: Rachel Underwood

Age Range: 4 years +

Page Count: 34

What to expect: Terry hates being such a large dinosaur, because everything is so much harder than what his friends go through, or so he thinks, but Trina shows him how he is perfect just the way he is!

Terry loves school, but he finds it difficult to get around because of the way his body is made- giant feet, extra tall legs, big tail, small arms, and tiny hands. He wants to be more like his friends because he sees that they have it much 'easier'. When he has a hard time choosing an instrument in Music class, his friend Tina, not only gives him the perfect instrument for him to play, but shows him that he is perfect the way he is! Looking closely at his friends, he notices that each of them have difficulties, but they don't give up and make what they have work!

This is a wonderful story of acceptance and resiliency! I feel like this would be a perfect book for children when they 'wish they were someone else' for one reason or another. Using characters such as dinosaurs allows children to follow the story easily. I also love how the story is based around the arts, more specifically music! The illustrations are drawn beautifully and are a perfect partner to the story!
